The new Mazda CX-5 2022
The 20 model new Mazda CX-5 2022 line up is a significantly updated version of Mazda’s sharp, stylish, spacious and dynamic Sport Utility Vehicle. Thanks to the increased trim differentiation and five model levels plus a choice of automatic or manual gearbox with every trim level, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is a family SUV tailored around customers to give them more choice and options for personalisation than ever before. With enhanced driving dynamics and an expanded range of safety features, the award winning mid-sized SUV is easy to handle and fun to drive.
Engineered around Mazda’s ‘car and driver as one’ philosophy, the Mazda CX-5 has been designed to fit into a variety of lifestyles. Suitable for long family journeys or nipping around town, the new CX-5 is spacious and practical for the whole family. Refined enhancements improve ride comfort and reduce fatigue, significantly through evolving the bodyshell, suspension and seat structure.
Stronger grade differentiation and five trim levels for the new Mazda CX-5
Mazda has long been a brand whose family vehicles tread the line between sport and utility and therefore has expanded the 2022 Mazda CX-5 range to five model grades to define their distinctive characters; SE-L, Newground, Sport Edition, Sport Black Edition and GT Sport, ensuring a wider range and choice for each individual customer.
The three stand out trim grades: Newground, Sport Black Edition and GT Sport each offer a unique look with a distinct focus.
The Mazda CX-5 Newground is for those with an active lifestyle looking for an all-purpose, slightly rugged look. Designed with silver side accents, silver front, rear and door garnishes, black door mirrors, lime green accents to the powerful front grille and 19” black diamond cut alloy wheels. The theme continues in the cabin, combining half suede black trim with lime green stitching and heated front seats. Offered exclusively with a reversible waterproof boot floor, 165ps Skyactiv-G petrol engine and the option of Zircon Sand Metallic paint colour.
As the name suggests the Mazda CX-5 Sport Black Edition is for those looking for a sportier exterior. Exclusive to Sport Black comes gloss black lower bumper, side mouldings, wheel arches and 19” alloy wheels finished in black metallic paint. Together with a gloss black signature wing and front grille featuring red accent, this creates a more athletic look. Red stitching on the black leather seats (heated in the front), steering wheel, gear shift lever and door panels, complete the look. Equipped with reversing camera, windscreen-projected colour Active Driving Display, power tilt and slide sunroof and power liftgate.
The Mazda CX-5 GT Sport offers that extra bit of comfort, luxury and technology. Differentiated with a unified one colour exterior, colour coded front bumpers and wheel arches, chrome signature wing and a gloss black front grille. The interior features Nappa leather upholstery, seats which are both heated and ventilated, with luxurious textures of genuine woodgrain. The GT Sport comes with a 360° View Monitor to aid parking, Bose Sound System and wireless phone charger.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 GT Sport also features a wide choice of engine, drivetrain and transmission with both the 2.0-litre 165ps Skyactiv-G and newly available 194ps 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol. The 165ps engine is matched to front wheel drive, while the 194ps petrol comes with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox with cylinder deactivation for improved efficiency. The GT Sport is also offered with the 184ps Skyactiv-D diesel matched to all-wheel drive.
Key mild styling refreshes inside and out
The elegant restyling of the front and rear adaptive LED headlights and tailight clusters blend perfectly with the sculpted body and offer more natural lighting, reducing glare particularly at night time, helping reduce driving fatigue.
The front of the 2022 CX-5 features a powerful new, more three-dimensional grille and bold signature wing design, taking the CX-5’s sleek exterior to a new level.
A small increase in boot space now takes the CX-5 to a generous 522 litres, and the fold-flat 40:20:40 split rear bench helps easily accommodate those larger items. On the Sport grade and above, convenience is increased with a powerlift tailgate for handsfree access to the boot.
For driving the kids to school the rear doors also open to nearly 90 degrees, meaning fitting child seats or getting babies in and out of carriers is made much easier. In addition, the seats have been redesigned with better support and padding for stability and comfort. Plus, the drivers seats come with 6-way adjustment with lumbar support as standard, and with a memory function in some editions.
Mazda Connect infotainment technology also comes as standard and provides a suite of intuitive interactive features which are easy to use and helps eliminate distractions. Information is displayed on a beautifully clear central 7” or 10.25” screen (depending on the model) which is perfectly positioned at eye level. With Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto integrated into the system, it is easy to access music, maps, messages, and make phone calls with Siri or through the car’s Multimedia Commander.
Updated safety and technology features
The new range comes equipped with the i-Activsense safety system technologies as standard which now includes Mazda’s Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS) system. This suite of sophisticated safety innovation will alert the driver to hazards and will help to avoid collisions or lessen their impact. For example, the CTS system assists with acceleration and braking to maintain a proper distance from the car in front in slow moving traffic. In addition it assists with steering to keep the car in the correct lane, in slow moving traffic to help reduce driver fatigue.
In selected four-wheel-drive models, Mazda’s i-Activ All-Wheel-Drive system actively monitors all road and environment conditions by using 27 sensors, pre-empting any hazardous conditions. The GT Sport also benefits from an Off-Road Mode, which makes driving feel more natural on un-made and slippery surfaces.
Mazda’s next generation of Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture has been applied to the 2022 CX-5, so that road noise has been greatly reduced particularly when driving on rough surfaces such as gravel.
