New Suzuki e Vitara: Suzuki’s First EV Revealed

Suzuki has officially entered the world of electric vehicles with the announcement of their first-ever battery-electric model, the Suzuki e Vitara.

Expected to launch in the Summer of 2025, the e Vitara is a fresh take on electric SUVs. Drawing inspiration from the concept model eVX, which was revealed in January 2023, the e Vitara brings Suzuki’s versatility to a whole new platform.

Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about the Suzuki e Vitara so far, and how it is set to redefine Suzuki’s new range of electric vehicles.

Design

The Suzuki e Vitara carries forward the familiar look of Suzuki’s SUVs but adds a modern touch to match its electric nature. Suzuki’s goal with the e Vitara was to create an EV that retains the capabilities of an SUV. Its design remains chunky and practical, bringing a rugged feel with angular wheel arches and subtle cladding.

While maintaining its rugged SUV look, it also incorporates subtle aerodynamic touches like a gently sloping roofline.

The front has also been modernised, swapping the chrome grille featured on its petrol sibling for a simpler design. This new front grille design and new sleek LED headlights give the e Vitara a distinct visual identity within Suzuki’s lineup.

It comes with 18-inch wheels as standard, and 19-inch alloys are also available. At 4,275mm in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase, the e Vitara is slightly bigger than the standard Vitara. This added size means there’s extra interior space.

Interior Features

The e Vitara’s interior is practical and modern, with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and 10.1-inch central touchscreen. Most controls, including climate settings, are accessed through the touchscreen. However, a small row of physical climate controls is placed on the dashboard for easy access, and the steering wheel does also have physical buttons for added convenience.

Ambient lighting further highlights the e Vitara’s modernised feel, adding a welcoming touch to the atmosphere, especially for nighttime drives.  Practical touches include a floating centre console with a rotary gear selector, cup holders, a wireless charging pad, and additional storage underneath.

The e Vitara offers excellent space. There’s a 360-litre boot, and the flat rear floor makes it extremely comfortable for passengers sitting in the back. The cabin focuses on comfort and functionality, and it is a great fit for both short and long journeys.

Platform and Build

The Suzuki e Vitara is built on the all-new Heartect-e platform, which has been specifically developed for battery electric vehicles. This platform is a development of Suzuki’s existing Heartect architecture but updated to suit the requirements of an EV.

This design integrates the battery into the floor, lowering the centre of gravity for better stability all the while freeing up interior space. It also includes structural enhancements for high-voltage batter protection. This ensures safety in the event of a collision.

Suzuki has also future-proofed this platform – it is scalable and designed with the intention to support future electric models, highlighting their commitment to growing their electric vehicle stance.

Powertrains and Performance

The Suzuki e Vitara is available with both two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) options to fit various driving requirements.

The 2WD model comes with two battery choices. A 49kWh battery paired with a 144ps motor, or a larger 61kWh battery, which boosts power to 174PS.

Both setups deliver 189Nm of torque, which means the e Vitara excels at providing both smooth and responsive acceleration.

The 61kWh version is expected to achieve a range of up to 250 miles, while the 49kWh battery offers just under 200 miles.

The 4WD option features Suzuki’s ALLGRIP-e system, which uses independent electric motors on front and rear axels. This system produces a combined 183PS and significantly increases torque to 300Nm, so traction and stability are excellent on challenging surfaces. This version is, therefore, ideal for anyone looking for a car suited to off-road driving.

The ALLGRIP-e system also includes a Trail Mode, one of the driving mode options, which is built for difficult off-road conditions. This mode automatically redistributes power and applies the brakes to spinning tyres, mimicking the effect of a limited-slip differential to help the vehicle.

Additionally, Suzuki’s BEV powertrain is built to be dependable and long-lasting. As a result, the e Vitara uses a lithium-iron-phosphate battery and a compact eAxle system, which integrates the motor and inverter for efficient performance. Lithium iron-phosphate batteries are known for their long lifespan and durability, adding another level of dependability to the e Vitara.

This system provides the e Vitara with fast acceleration from a standstill and smooth power delivery for urban roads and motorway drives.
